Records Fall In Spectacular Fashion in Front of Great Crowd at 12th Annual Mud Mayhem Mud Bog

Jamaica, VA – After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway swung open the gates for the 12th Annual Mud Mayhem Mud Bog presented by Atlantic Broadband and WhosYourDriver.org and welcomed back a great crowd and truck count this past Saturday, May 1. The event was also sponsored by Virginia is for Racing Lovers (VA Tourism), Northern Neck Chevrolet, Atkins Petroleum & Propane, Gary’s Transmission, After Hours Fabrication, Collision One, and Truckin Thunder. The enthusiastic crowd witnessed some incredible runs in both the mud bog and mud sling pits. In what was one of the fastest events in the history at the state-of-the-art facility, the Kelly O’Dell Sling Pit for the mud dragsters did not disappoint as it produced multiple track records. When the day was done, three-division track records were broken in spectacular fashion. In the WhosYourDriver.org X-Cut dragster division Palmer in The Show, set a new track record with a run of 1.990 seconds, breaking a record held by the late Kelly O’Dell that was set back in 2015. Also, in the WhosYourDriver.org X-Cut division, Travis shoemaker in Highroller 4 broke his own X-Cut Injector track record with a run of 2.008 seconds. And in the Victory Lap XX-Paddle Injector dragster division Keith Mitchell in The Magician set a new track record with a run of 2.045 seconds, lowering the record set by Travis Shoemaker in 2019. Overall, 76 different competitors took turns at the state-of-the-art 200-foot pit for a total of 160 registered passes. Jamaica, VA – Just when you think that the current track records are as low as they can go they get broken again. Cooler than normal temperatures led to six new track records during the 13th Annual Run -A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by James River Equipment, Commonwealth Motorsports and Essex Concrete and in part by Aaron’s, Atkins Petroleum & Propane, After Hours Fabrication, Collision One, Gary’s Transmission, Middlesex Metals and Truckin Thunder. A great crowd was on hand to see some of the East Coast’s top mud boggers tackle the 200 foot pit. 67 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 138 completed passes. Jamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the first of two Mud Bog and Mud Sling’s for the 2017 season this past Saturday May 20th. The Mud Mayhem Mud Bog presented James River Equipment, Commonwealth Motorsports and Essex Concrete and in part by Aaron’s, Atkins Petroleum & Propane, After Hours Fabrication, Collision One and Truckin Thunder drew a huge crowd and great field of competitors at the state of the art mud bog facility in Jamaica, VA. The sunny temperatures and sunny skies provided a tremendous day for mud bogging. 68 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 146 completed passes. Overall 102 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 221 registered passes. The day also saw the successful introduction of two new divisions with Mechanicsville, VA’s Matthew Underwood in Hells Bells taking the win in Unlimited X Tractor and King William, VA’s Ray Adkins in Haulin’ Gas taking the win in Obstacle X. Both divisions were the first to run a short course for time. Winners in each class: Super Stock A and B – Casey Coates in Doin’ It Dirty; Modified A and B – Charlie Wood in Mudweiser; Pro Mod A – Blake Messer in Whiskey Bent; Pro Mod B – Kyle Lohmeyer in Showtime; Unlimited Bog – Kenney Baugher in Assassin; Unlimited X Tractor – Matthew Underwood in Hells Bells; Obstacle X – Ray Atkins in Haulin’ Gas; X Cut Dragster – Jason Massie in Intensity; XX Paddle Dragster – Dale Ellenberger in Touch of Madness. The Atkins Petroleum & Propane “King of the Hill” Double Down Bonus was offered again to anyone that could win both the A & B classes in the Super Stock, Modified or Pro Mod divisions. The Mega Maniac Challenge presented by Northern Neck Chevrolet offered a $1000 bonus to the winner of the new Unlimited X Tractor and it went to Matthew Underwood in Hells Bells. His first ever win in the class was worth $2000 total. The Mud Book Crown presented by Kings of Mud and The Metal Shop this year offered the winner of the Unlimited Bog division a one of a kind trophy and a $750 bonus. Jamaica, VA – Due to the forecast for Saturday May 21st officials of The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway have canceled the 9th Annual Down & Dirty Mud Mayhem presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports. With 100% chance of heavy rains forecast and the low pressure system sitting directly over Virginia, officials determined that for the safety of competitors and fans alike it was best to cancel the event. “Words can not describe how disappointed we are with having to cancel tomorrow’s event, the facility was prepped and ready for what we felt was going to be a record breaking day. The safety of our competitors and fans is the most important aspect of what we do here at Virginia Motor Speedway,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. There is no reschedule date....
